Universities and places of higher education have always been hotbeds of progressive thinking and a place where people of all ages can broaden their horizons. The Surge Campus Rep Programme supports students who want to reach out to their contemporaries and raise awareness of the reality of what humans do to animals.

The Surge Campus Rep programme was successfully trialled before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, providing outreach materials and support to students who wanted to share their concern for the fate of animals and the exploitation to which we humans subject them.

As universities and colleges closed due to lockdown the Campus Rep programme had to be placed on temporary hiatus, but with life now returning to normal Surge is pleased to announce it’s back once again and we’re looking for new reps.

“Our aim is to motivate students to get active for animals on campus through hosting fun and effective events that raise awareness about the reality of what humans do to animals,” said programme coordinator Tati Rheinbaben. “Our events are focused on all aspects of veganism, however, we also facilitate campus events raising awareness about the horrors of the dairy industry, or the truth about the climate crisis and animal agriculture.”

As well as a budget for vegan food samples and outreach materials - t-shirts, educational leaflets in four designs, business cards, stickers and an outdoor pop-up banner - campus reps can expect support from our programme coordinator. Plus, upon completion of six outreach events in an academic year (two per semester), reps will be awarded a Surge Campus Rep certificate to add to their CV.

The first Campus Rep events will be held in universities in the UK including London, Dundee, Lancaster, Norwich, Aberystwyth and York, but we will be expanding the offering to students in other countries and regions as we receive requests.

By signing up as an organiser, student reps will be playing a major and pivotal role in expanding the vegan movement, developing our ever-growing community and amplifying the message of animal rights.
